Wild Horse Nine

McDonagh's fifth feature sends John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, two CIA officers in 1973, to Easter Island, and most critics are won over by the pair and the jokes.

It is funny, bittersweet and well acted, though some read it as McDonagh replaying his hits, and some find its humour sits badly with the history it touches. Critics split between five stars and a B-, so we land at four: a strong, flawed crowd-pleaser, carried by Malkovich.
